Lingsoft is participating in the new MilVerse4MDO – Military Metaverse for Multi-Domain Operations project coordinated by Turku University of Applied Sciences. The research project funded by Business Finland’s Defense and Digital Resilience programme focuses on exploring and developing the use of a metaverse, artificial intelligence and XR technologies in the defence sector. In the MilVerse4MDO project, metaverse refers to a virtual operating environment in which simulations and data collected from different systems can be utilised in areas such as training, planning, building situational awareness and supporting logistics. Nokia Technologies and Patria are the leading company partners in the project, which will last for three years.

The goal is to develop better tools for operational simulation, training, planning and reporting purposes. Material management and damage repair logistics also play an important role in operations. Modern technologies provide a huge amount of information about the battlefield situation, equipment, troops and many other topics, and finding the essential information quickly and reliably is a critical factor in field conditions. AI and intelligent information retrieval solutions help to filter and present relevant information to the user in the right format.

The military metaverse, in which different tools, services, information retrieval and filtering work seamlessly together, will meet the needs of Finland’s defence sector and the NATO defence alliance.

Lingsoft’s role in the project focuses on language technologies, support for multilingual interaction and the processing of AI-based language data and documents. Interfaces will be used to integrate Lingsoft solutions into the metaverse and XR environments developed by the project partners.

“In the current security environment, digital situational awareness requires absolute data sovereignty and reliability. The greatest challenge in a modern crisis situation is no longer a lack of information, but the uncontrolled overload it causes. The metaverse and XR environments will create a visual framework for operations, but real-time decision-making requires the ability to manage linguistic data – speech, reports and instructions. Lingsoft's contribution to the MilVerse project is language intelligence, which immediately filters critical information in the right format and ensures that multilingual interaction also functions reliably in extreme conditions,” says Juhani Reiman, CEO of Lingsoft.

Other project partners include ProVerse Interactive, Millog, RumbleTools, Saab Finland, Unikie, 3D Talo, Ahola Group, ReOrbit, Vaisala and Tampere University.
