Planmeca
Planmeca Oy is an international pioneer in dental care technology and imaging equipment. Founded in 1971, the Finnish company exports its products to more than 120 countries.
Internationality is also strongly reflected in the company’s needs: the quality of multilingual documentation and communication is key to its operations. Planmeca and Lingsoft started working together in 2012, covering a wide range of translation and language services.
Diverse translation work for patient safety
Annina Holm, Planmeca’s Documentation Coordinator, explains that the collaboration covers a wide range of text types: manuals, marketing texts and user interface texts. For example, some software manuals require almost 30 language versions to be published simultaneously.
“The consistency of the language versions is vital for us. Together with Lingsoft, we’ve worked hard to manage the terminology – the term base is constantly being improved by revising and supplementing it,” says Annina.
The importance of quality cannot be overstated as Planmeca products are directly linked to patient safety. In the language versions, even a small error can have serious consequences, so it is essential that the versions are accurate and consistent.
Lingsoft brings certainty and efficiency
Lingsoft’s role extends from the practical implementation of translation work to project management. Annina highlights in particular the professionalism of Lingsoft’s project managers.
“Lingsoft’s project managers are masters of their craft and know what Planmeca needs. Consistent quality and good information flow make our cooperation smooth.
Lingsoft’s ability to deliver large sets of language versions on tight deadlines has been a major advantage for Planmeca. In general, the translation and checking of a manual in 20 language versions can be completed within two weeks.”
The value of cooperation in international business
Multilingual documentation and communication are needed for Planmeca’s international activities. Planmeca’s Documentation Manager Sari Oksanen says that Lingsoft’s high-quality end result, flexibility and expert terminology management support the company’s growth and help ensure patient safety.
“The quality of the language versions, cooperation and good communication are important characteristics for a language partner. Lingsoft meets all these requirements, which is why our collaboration has continued for more than a decade,” explains Sari.
