Ensure that your message is understandable
Professional subtitling ensures that the message is always understood correctly, no matter the channel. When videos and other content include subtitles, people can watch and consume them on their computers and mobile devices even
with the sound off, for example, on buses and trains or in libraries and open-plan offices. We can subtitle content in its original language or in other languages, no matter the size of the project.

Accessible subtitling as a comprehensive service
Have you ever wondered what today’s accessibility requirements involve, how subtitling is done, and who could do it for you? We have the tools, knowledge, and expertise – and we want to help!
What is included in our subtitling service?
Our subtitling service includes managing your project, the subtitling work itself, permanently burning in the subtitles to your video file (when necessary), and the delivery of the final work. When subtitles are burned in, it means making them a permanent part of your video so that they are always visible on screen. On the other hand, when you upload your subtitles as a separate SRT file to a platform like YouTube, they can be toggled on and off. We can also deliver your completed subtitles to the desired platform for easy access.
Efficient subtitling through collaboration between humans and AI
We provide subtitles in many languages, thanks to the help of AI and human experts. Lingsoft’s own AI does the groundwork, after which our language experts utilise Lingsoft’s speech recognition tool to polish the results so that your subtitles meet the necessary accessibility requirements. This allows for quick turnaround times, potentially resulting in a same-day boost to the accessibility of social media campaigns. And thanks to the interplay between our experienced team and advanced technological solutions, our service is also cost-effective for our clients.
Why is subtitling worth it?
When your content is accessible and easy to digest, you’re telling customers that you truly want to focus on them and their needs. Subtitled and transcribed video and audio contents are useful for people with hearing disabilities, language learners and those who can’t view your content with the sound on. Translated subtitles are another way to reach entirely new audiences. Your contents are valuable, so you should make the most of them when it comes to their search engine optimisation. In addition, subtitles improve the discoverability of videos in all types of channels.

What is linguistic accessibility?
Accessibility is the sum of many parts: technical usability, frictionless user experiences, and comprehensible content. Comprehensibility, on the other hand, is a product of language: clear language is accessible language.
Accessible content is, at its best, multi-channel in nature. Your subject matter is transmitted using voice, pictures and text, or as the result of the interplay between these elements. However, its linguistic content always plays a central part: it is through language that we understand and comprehend the world around us.
Clear language helps us understand better. Grammatical correctness, no-nonsense structures, well-organised content, and descriptive headings help ensure the readability and comprehensibility of your text. This also helps transmit the true meaning and tone of your message.
The cornerstones of clear language are grammatical correctness, no-nonsense sentence structures, well-organised contents, and descriptive headings. Choose your words and expressions with a focus on comprehensibility and avoid any abstract or difficult language. This way, the readability and comprehensibility of your text will remain intact, and you will be able to transmit the content and tone of the message.
Clear language is typically used in contents whose target audiences aren’t expected to be experts in a given field – think of how public officials communicate with and inform the general public.
Above all, the objective in all communications and contents is to get your message across – and to everyone.
Lingsoft has developed accessibility product in, for example, the MeMADproject.
Why is accessibility important?
Accessibility means unhindered access to digital services – in other words, that every one of us can use electronic services, utilise digital information, and participate in our increasingly digital society.
The accessibility requirements of the Digital Services Act apply, above all, to public sector organisations. However, the act also covers some private sector companies in Finland, such as banks and insurance companies.
The European Accessibility Act and the Digital Services Act mandated that public online services must become compliant with the necessary accessibility requirements by September 2020, and the same requirements were also extended to the video and audio contents in mobile apps in June 2021. Today, any video and audio content published on a website must be subtitled within 14 days of its first date of publication.
However, in the end, accessibility means genuinely caring for your customers: understanding their needs, taking users into account, and providing excellent service. That’s why you should pay attention to your accessibility, even if the law doesn’t apply to your organisation.
Read more about accessibility criteria that are defined in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1).
Further information about the application of the accessibility criteria can be found on the web pages of the Southern Finland Regional State Administrative Agency https://www.saavutettavuusvaatimukset.fi/
