Esperi Care
Esperi Care is one of Finland’s largest providers of residential care services, offering services to elderly people, clients with disabilities and people with mental health problems throughout Finland. The needs of its international and multicultural work community are at the heart of its cooperation with Lingsoft
Esperi has a large number of employees from foreign backgrounds, and supporting them requires multilingual communication solutions. HRD Manager Ella Aho-Mantila explains the starting point of the cooperation:
“We’ve reviewed what needs to be in English on the intranet and in internal documentation. Lingsoft has been our partner in this work, and its expertise is evident in both translation and terminology management.”
Together with Lingsoft, Esperi has developed glossaries to ensure consistent terminology in all internal communications. To date, Lingsoft has translated Esperi’s training materials and guidelines for employees, among other things.
Artificial intelligence brings new solutions for language learning
Lingsoft’s role has expanded to include support for language learning. The MAKU project is a collaboration between Lingsoft, Haaga-Helia, Laurea University of Applied Sciences and Arffman Oy, which develops AI-based conversation and pronunciation exercises for Finnish language learners. Unit manager Anne Tamminen from Esperi’s Pakaasi care home describes the importance of exercises:
“Our international employees can easily practise Finnish with AI-based tools. Speaking practice, for example to communicate with a doctor or to call relatives, has made everyday life easier and reduced the threshold for using Finnish.”
The pilot phase of the project has been enthusiastically received by employees from foreign backgrounds, and the initial results have been encouraging. In addition to language learning, the exercise also helps employees adapt to the new culture.
Language skills increase safety and job satisfaction
Lingsoft’s multilingual communication and AI solutions have delivered significant benefits. Accurate translations and consistent terminology improve safety, while AI-based tools and exercises support the linguistic development of the employees.
“Safety is of course the most important aspect but, in addition to basic communication, language skills also improve an employee’s integration and job satisfaction,” stresses Anne Tamminen.
Esperi understands the potential of AI, and the company is open to its broader use in the development of future care work.
A working partnership
Esperi appreciates Lingsoft’s technological leadership and ability to meet its diverse needs with quality and efficiency.
“Lingsoft is a good partner for us. In addition to translation and communication cooperation, together we have developed solutions that support our employees’ language learning as well as safe and smooth working,” concludes Ella Aho-Mantila.
